Professor Andrew Neely

Professor Neely, currently Head of the Institute for Manufacturing and the Manufacturing and Management Division of the Engineering Department, and a fellow of Sidney Sussex College, will take up the position of Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise and Business Relations in March 2017.

He joined the University of Cambridge in the early 1990s, initially as a researcher, before taking up the institution’s first joint lectureship between the Engineering Department and the Cambridge Judge Business School. In 2000 he was appointed to a chair at Cranfield School of Management and between 2003-2012 he was deputy director of the Advanced Institute of Management (AIM) Research, then the UK’s largest ever investment in management research. On his return to the University of Cambridge, he founded the Cambridge Service Alliance – a research partnership with leading firms to explore service business model innovation in manufacturing.

As Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise and Business Relations, Professor Neely will lead a strategy to enhance and develop the University’s engagements and partnerships with industry and commerce, and the wider enterprise economy in the region.

Professor Neely said: “I am delighted to have been offered the role of Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise and Business Relations. Universities make a difference in the world through their research, education and engagement and I am looking forward to working with colleagues from across the University to help strengthen our relationships with large and small firms alike.”

The University of Cambridge Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Leszek Borysiewicz, said: “I am pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Enterprise and Business Relations. He has an impressive track record of working in higher education and with business and industry.  This will help strengthen the University’s efforts to consolidate, as well as develop, business partnerships and enterprise opportunities.”
